With a whole new year starting ahead of us, many more public holidays are lining up in the coming months. And what does that entail?
Planning ahead for all our travel vacations! Yay to more trips!
Separately, I’ve also shared a note on flying with your family to Faroe Island during the June school holidays for an epic adventure!
I have seen quite a well-received response and queries from various people on that! As always, I’m happy to help and glad that all of you can be excited about planning for your next trip with great deals.
But before June holidays, there are also a few more publich holidays lining up that would allow you for an extended vacations.
And this time around, we’re going to look at April. I’m keeping this note short and sweet, largely focusing on the deal itself.
Norway weather and season in April
Oh, April.. Are you sure it’s the right time to go?
My personal experience so far, really is that there’s no perfect time to go when it comes to visiting Europe. In fact, I tend to worry lesser on that and just go if I feel right about it.
In places like Scotland for example, you will commonly hear many confirming that the weather is highly unpredictable and changes in the matter of minutes.
Or places like Faroe Island, weather is very unpredictable too.
You know what people have said, “you can’t second guess the weather at ANY time of the year in Scotland”.
During April, parts of Norway is still in winter season, while to the South you may get to experience Spring already.
But bear in mind that seasons may come later and nowadays due to global warming, things are just harder to predict now…
Temperature down at the South should have a good range from 3 deg to a high of 10 deg. I know I would thoroughly enjoy that weather.

Getting there by flying with Qatar
To make this trip happen, we’re going to ride on top of Qatar’s recent promotion and aim for SGD 900 and below.
Generally speaking, flights around public holidays can get expensive. So striking it while it’s hot is crucial in getting it cheaper.
With promotions like this going on, flights timing can be a little restrictive. The timing above are probably one of the better ones already.
Reaching the city early gives you a good start, and being able to fly back in the evening allows you to do any last minute shopping.
With 30kg baggage included, your total flight cost is likely to stay under SGD 900. That’s a huge deal! I see no reason at all to wait, get yourself booked now!
Ok ok, hang on. I would at least need to know where I’m going right?
Er… well, ever heard of friends who “book first, plan later”? Yeah, you might want to do that too. But hey, don’t worry. 10 days is not even enough to cover the number of attractions this country has.
So you have plenty to choose. I would think you want to worry more on what to choose.
An ambitious North and South in 10 days?
Which brings me to this point. In most of our trips, we tend to “play safe, worry less”.
But once in a while, everyone loves an adventure. Go to the unknown. Do something different.
And in this case, I get a strong vibe to try something new. Or maybe just cause I’ve been there before.
Anyhow, what if we try to cover both North and South of Norway? In 10 days, it’s crazy I know. But what better time to leverage on the 30kg baggage than now?
Here’s my initial thought on the draft for your travel plan:
09 April: | Day of arrival, Oslo |
10 April: | Visit Bergen from Oslo, 7 hours train |
11 April: | Stay in Bergen, visit Bryggen |
12 April: | Stay in Bergen, take the Flam Railway |
13 April: | Stay in Bergen, take the Fjord Cruise to Hardangerfjord |
14 April: | Back to Oslo, fly to Tromso |
15 April: | Stay in Tromso, Husky sled or Arctic Roadtrip: Kvaløya with a scenic lunch |
16 April: | Stay in Tromso, take the Fjellheisen cable car |
17 April: | Back to Oslo |
18 April: | Oslo to airport after lunch |

Ok, that seems… reasonable. Possible. Admittedly your time up in the North is shorter but still, you get to enjoy the mild winter on this trip.
To head up to the North, it’s best to get yourself some domestic flights. And Skyscanner is our absolute best travel partner to help us get some good deals.
I will not be covering extensively on the cost in this note, but I thought it’s still important to at least highlight the upfront cost of the flights alone.
SIN to OSL to SIN | SGD 900 |
OSL to TOS to OSL | SGD 230 |
Total cost per pax | SGD 1130 |
So there you go, the cost per person is not that bad. Tromso certainly has more to see and do than just 2 days worth, but we got to work with the days we have on hand.
Visiting Lofoten would be really nice though. If you can spare a couple more days and extra bucks, Lofoten would definitely be at the top of the list.
Quick Mention – Alesund is worth visiting too
If Tromso doesn’t excite you as much, I would most definitely recommend Alesund. I’ve been there before and there’s certainly more than enough attractions for 2 days as well.
In Alesund, Aksla view point allows you to see the entire city from the top. The unparalleled view is extremely satisfying and beautiful in every possible way.
On the other side of the view point, much lesser view though, can be beautiful at the right time too.
I managed to catch the sunset right after a rainfall when I was there, and it was so incredibly beautiful!
Being there standing there, I was loss for words and was just completely mesmerized by the view. If you’re heading to Alesund, be sure to head up to this view point and enjoy the views!
Tip: Chill out at the restaurant there. They serve decent food and the view from within is just as good. You get to shield yourself from the wind and the cold too!
Let’s not also forget about Norway’s famous Atlantic road. Enjoy and marvel the Norwegian engineering, drive through the road and capture your moments there. You will not regret it.
The Atlantic Ocean Road runs up to 8km long, as it connects the Island of Averøy with the mainland using various viaducts and bridges. On this stretch of remarkable highway, you’ll be rewarded with some of the best views during dawn or dusk.
Because of Norway’s geographic location and the Atlantic road is situated all the way at the top, you may catch a glimpse of a spectacular moon view if you go at the right time – mid of the month.
Warning: While being incredible beautiful, Norway’s Atlantic Ocean Road is also known to be dangerous. During stormy weather, big waves would come crashing on the highway with enormous force. If you happen to encounter this, be extra careful, drive slow or avoid altogether if it’s really bad, but it’ll be one experience you will remember for a lifetime.
What is your next travel destination?
Norway has and will always be on my list. In fact, I bet it is for most of us. But if you’ve been there, or think it’s too far or too expensive, where else would you go?
If not Norway, where would your next travel destination be?
Share your thoughts or plans below and perhaps, I could share a plan or two in future!
Of course though, only if it’s a place I’ve been to, had good knowledge and experience to provide credible and honest sharing on my blog.
If there’s a course to specialize in Northern Europe or New Zealand, I’ll be the first to sign up for that!
Anyhow, you’ve a more important job to do now – Book your flight to Norway this instant!
