Quick read: If you’ve googled Northern Lights images before, you would’ve come across images of people gazing up into the beautiful starry sky in a cabin with glass roof. Yes, that’s the Arctic Snow Hotel and Glass Igloo! I will be reviewing my stay at this place and let you know whether it’s worth your time!

If you’ve been researching on Finland, you would’ve seen and be impressed by some of the most amazing photos featuring glass igloos and cabins right?

Yeah, that’s what I’ll be talking about today. And if I have to summarize the entire experience in 3 words, it would be “Simply Amazingly Good”.

I’m not exaggerating at all. Now hold your thoughts first. Hear me out.

Before I go into details, let’s first help everyone else get acquainted with this place ya?

Where is this: Arctic Snow igloo & glass
What is it: A 360 night view experience for all aurora lovers and icy cold igloos for the maximum sensational staycation
How to get there: Best with their shuttle buses. Book it through their website or email them directly

Alright, now that everyone is caught up to speed, let’s dive in shall we?

Tip: The road there may not always be easy to drive on. If there’s a choice, I strongly recommend to just let them take you there on the shuttle buses. You can email them to book your pickup from Rovaniemi City Centre. There’s also the option of a private van or shared with others, and it’s obviously slightly more expensive than the latter. Do note that their shuttle service costs nearly SGD200 for 6 pax at the time we went in early 2020.

What better way to see an unparalleled view than a 360 Glass Cabin Stay

In this trip, I decided to try out something new – the famous glass cabin or snow igloo. But after considering my two elderly folks who came along for this trip, I decided to give a pass on snow igloo.

Besides, the glass cabin does interest me a lot more because of the panoramic view. While the cabin isn’t overly huge and spacious, it was decent enough for two to sleep in comfortably with two or three luggages stowed away near the entrance.

The restroom however, was a tad smaller than expected with the shower room a little on the smaller side than what I would’ve preferred. Have a look at the images below to get a better idea.

The main attraction of this cabin really is the majestic glass ceiling. Spanning upwards from around the shoulder height, I’m really impressed by the unobstructed view all across the area!

The larger cabin is decently spacious to hold 4 adults and some luggages. And while the shower room might be too small for others, it serves the purpose just right.

Watching Northern Lights in the sky

During night time, lying in the comfortable bed with your loved one staring at the glittering sky is simply an amazing experience. If you’re lucky that day, you may also get to see those famous dancing lights in the sky!

Wait, but I can see those Northern Lights if I tag along a tour or just head out of the city myself to catch a glimpse right?

Yes you can! But staying in this glass cabin just positively amplified that experience with the fact that you’re sleeping in that cozy bed observing those lights dancing right above you, with nothing obstructing your view. Isn’t that a whole lot better than standing outside shivering under the cold weather with occasional wind gust?

I’m not sure about you, but I sure am preferring this one instead. Just a min walk out you can reach their cozy restaurant with some view of the sky as well for a late night supper.

Do you know? Arctic Snow Igloo and Cabin also provides a service that informs guests when the Northern Lights appears? An alarm will go off in your cabin to alert you!

Not having enough of snow fun? You will get all of it here at Arctic Snow Hotel & Glass Igloo!

Apart from having the best view to observe the Northern Lights, there are plenty of activities waiting for you in this quiet cozy place!

It comes with a bit of a wilderness adventure, and some outdoor fun with the snow such as various speed of snow slides and sledding. If you hadn’t have your fill of snow, trust me. This is going to outrageously fun!

It’s one of which that I absolutely love and were made out of the snow piles near the restaurant to the left of the reception area.

To find them, continue walking pass the sauna and you will see a lot of snow piles. Just around the corner, you should find those snow sleds that you can use to slide with.

I never would’ve imagined my entire family spending a whole day out here just playing together. But we did.

No, really. I am dead serious. We did. And there’re a ton of videos shot of us going crazy here.

So if you’re going to do that, and like us, for long hours, you’re going to get hungry. Like, real hungry.

I never would’ve imagined how much calories and energy it burns even in the winter time and just sliding down snow. It’s crazy, I’m telling ya.

And I have just one perfect place to complete your amazing experience there at Arctic Snow Igloo.

Did you know? If you continue walking past those snow piles and tree lines, you will see what I think is a completely frozen lake that is massively huge. Nothing is in between where you stand towards the other end where the city life is. It’s just unbelievably beautiful and peaceful to feel the bustling busy city life left behind you.

Come experience a whole new way of dining – in ice with the Ice Restaurant!

Have you ever dine a full course meal sitting on a block of ice with a table also made out of ice? Really, have you?

I dare say for most of us, it’s a dead no. This was a first for me too. My thoughts? IT’S ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.

I’m not just talking about the food. It’s the whole experience. It’s unique. It’s a first. It’s fresh. And it’s cold!

But I really have to say that if you aren’t accustom to cold, this is going to be quite a bit of a problem for you to bear through your entire dinner.

I mean it’s a good type of “problem” but still, the cold stings right to your bone.

Though you’re sitting on pretty warm sheets of fur, what’s below is nevertheless ice. A massive block of ice.

I’ve a pretty good tolerance to cold. But even I’m shivering halfway through the dinner.

It’s extraordinarily impressive on the outside, shivering cold in the inside, yet sizzling hot and tasty meals to fill your tummy.

Can you imagine? Fresh, hot sizzling food served in the icy cold room. Well, naturally the food turned cold pretty quickly too 🤣.

But still, the point is that I’ve never seen anything like this before! Nor felt the icy cold ambience while having a full course meal. Be sure to wear your down jackets though! Don’t say I didn’t warn ya…

Tip: I strongly recommend that you reserve your dinner at the Ice Restaurant to ensure you don’t miss out a chance at this unique dining experience. You can either email them directly for booking or head over to their website here to book.

If you managed to pull through the entire dinner, congratulations. You’ve got yourself a special memory and experience you’ll never forget. So, you filled your tummy. You had your fun outdoor. You’re exhausted. And you surely have fulfilled the young heart and made your inner child one happy little kid.

Would I recommend staying a night with Arctic Snow Hotel and Glass Igloo?

If you’ve not been to the North and is looking special moments, good memories and unique experience, this would be it. Absolutely yes.

If Finland is not new to you but you haven’ tried this yet, personally? It’s still a yes.

But if you’re looking at budgets, best bang for bucks, then I would say you might want to reconsider. It’s not super expensive that I would straight up say no, but it does cost quite a fair bit more than a usual stay.

If you’ve been familiar and fond of Airbnb staycations, then you should be aware that there are family lodges and apartments available which offer the wilderness ambience and raw snow-fun at a more affordable range. Of course, there’s no need to compare these two together as they’re both unique in their very own way.

From a dollar and sense perspective, the Glass Igloos can cost an upwards of SGD700 for 2 adults per night. While offering a very unique experience, there’s also no sure way of seeing the Northern Lights in the stay itself.

When I met up with my family later in the year and we started browsing through the countless videos and images we took, it’s a hell lot of fun and laughter I must say. So no, we didn’t regret paying close to SGD2,000 for a family of 6 for a night.

In fact, it was one of the only place in the entire trip that all of us get to experience what we all had wanted to always do since young – playing in the snow with the family. And I saw for that moment in time, my parents revealed their inner child too. Mission accomplished, I say.

So there you go, I’ve covered most of the portion that I’ve personally experienced. Do take note that Arctic Snowhotel and Glass Igloo do offer other options at the location too such as Snow Sauna, Ice Bar which is another awesome place to hang out late at night, Sky Bar where you can also see Northern Lights through their glass roofs and a few other restaurants to further spoil you with choices.
