Faroe Islands is full of wonders and exotically beautiful natural scenes for one to explore. And in my previous post, I’ve covered 5 must see and do locations in Faroe Islands that you should never miss out on. I will link it down below for you to check out if you haven’t already seen it.
But an island this beautiful would seem dull if it isn’t full of rich historical events and culture.
So beyond just exploring the scenic places, I would also highly encourage one to indulge in their culturally rich backgrounds and historical sites.
And to provide more options for your itinerary planning, below are a few more that you may wish to consider.
Tip: Do note that some cultural exchange are time/period bound. So please check the dates in advance if you plan to go.
I personally find these activities or places truly unique, yet they may not suite everyone’s preferences. Without further ado, let’s hop right in!
G! Festival in Gøta (only in July)
In Faroe Island, there’s a festival event that happens only in July and it’s called G! Festival.
Held every year at Gøta on Eysturoy, it’s one of the largest music festival to be held on the Island.
This festival sees multiple international and local musicians come together to bring the best music for all the festival goers.
And because of its wild success, the G! Festival has earned the position and attention as one of the most important and influential musical event on the Faroe Island.
If you’re a hardcore music lover, this festival is a must-go and not to miss if you’re there in July!
Tip: Started around 2002, the G! Festival is still going strong and running till present. But because of it’s popularity, ticket sales are usually sold out really quick. Thankfully, if I’m not wrong, there’re 3 days to this festival. So if you want to attend this festival, be sure to grab yours quickly!
Traditional Faroese dining
Most of us Asians – in fact Singaporeans! – love food. If there’s one thing we’re absolutely loyal to, it would be food. No kidding. Myself included.
I mean, who doesn’t?! Seriously. Being able to taste and try all the various local delicacies and cuisines worldwide, is a very fortunate and blessed way of appreciating being alive.
Food lovers will never want to miss this out. At least, I wouldn’t. So why not include this as part of the default itinerary then?
Erm… Because, I would’ve almost assumed most of us would by default, included it inside.
Then again, local delicacies in the Scandinavia can come in very unique taste and smell.
I can still remember the smell of the fermented shark meat in Iceland; A local delicacy if you will…
Ahem, anyway there’s a unique cuisine in Faroe Island that one should give it a shot.
So what exactly is this cuisine about?
If you haven’t tried blubber or whale meat before, well, this is it. The Faroese cuisine consists of dried mutton, fish, whale meat, blubber, puffins, potatoes and vegetables.
Wow… That’s… quite a variety.
More than just the fermented shark meat that’s shown to me by a local host in Iceland? Yeah, that’s for sure.
You’re going to get a mouthful of delicacies there! Ok, let me help you out here on the imagination department.

Heli tour to see the islands from above
Ok, before you go judging me on why it wasn’t even in list above by default, hear me out.
Ok before you go about getting all excited, you need to know that this activity costs. A LOT. It’s hella expensive.
It’s not something everyone can do, want to do, or willing to splurge on.
But in the unique/lifetime/special experience department? Sure, it’s probably the most amazing way to see the entire Faroe Island from above.
If my budget allows, hell even if I have to over-extend just for this, I would.
And… There’s the fear of height. Although you’re safe in the plane/helicopter, that free-fall feeling is surely there.
All in all, I’m 100% certain it’s worth it to do it once. But if you have to do it only once, choosing the right place might be your concern.
If I have to pick, it’s either Icecland or Faroe Island. And between the two, I might just go with the latter instead.
Why? Because it’s a North Atlantic archipelago made up of 18 major rocky volcanic islands!
I can totally imagine Jurassic Park’s theme song playing in my mind, and the “Jurassic Age” scene right in front of me.
Chill back in this remote hillside village called Saksun
Located at the Northern edge of Streymoy, this remote village illustrates what a perfect retirement life would really look like. With an extremely gorgeous view and tranquility of the surrounding in this privately owned land, living here is quite literally a paradise on earth.
You can drive to this small secluded village either from Vágar airport or from the capital Tórshavn. You would be surprised that driving from the capital Tórshavn is actually shorter than from Vágar airport!
Alternatively, you could also take on tours that would bring you to the outskirts. For example, one particular day tour that covers Saksun village also brings you around other unique places in Faroe Island. Definitely worth checking out!
There isn’t going to be a whole lot of things to do in this small village, so do plan your day ahead and ensure you cover as many places you want to go in Streymoy.
Tip: Visit the farm called Dúvugarðar that is famously known for their hundreds of Ewes! I can imagine what a sight to behold.
A trip to Kalsoy Island and visit Kallur Lighthouse
Another fantastic location to visit while you’re there at Faroe Island is to take a boat trip to an island called Kalsoy Island. Here, immerse yourself yet again in the breathtaking scenery that is just otherworldly. I mean, you really don’t get to see such fascinating view just anywhere.
If that isn’t enough for you, then you should be aware of a landmark in this island that is currently being featured in the new James Bond movie. The only difference is, naturally, the scene in the movie is not the actual depiction of this location.
The huge sheer cliffs, winding roads and tunnels all across the island provides a unique and unforgettable experience that you would not easily find anywhere else in the world. With less than 100 people living on the island, it’s landscape is virtually unspoiled and kept pristine like everywhere else should’ve been.
But yes, Faroe Island is now the “new” James Bond island to visit as your next trip if movie scenes is one of your motivation to visit a location. Trust me when I say that Faroe Island will never disappoint you at all as the best destination for sceneries.

Well, unless you’re a city-focused traveller that enjoys mostly on convenience of a coffee house, shopping districts and air-conditioned malls. In that case, you’ve come to the wrong place I supposed.
Did you know? After a quick research, the island’s name actually means “man island” where it’s sister island that is parallel to its east, Kunoy Island, literally means “woman island”. Fun fact to know!
Start planning a trip to this island now as it gains more popularity!
Don’t wait, don’t hold back. Now that every country is beginning to open up the borders, it might really just become the perfect time for you to fly this far out of the world to see something extraordinarily beautiful after a long wait.
Furthermore, with the new James Bond movie out, many more people are going to be aware of this hidden gem and flock there. If you’re someone who doesn’t like too crowded places, this is the perfect chance.

Tip: There aren’t many flights to get to Faroe Islands. I think that much is obvious. You’re going to see yourself dropping off in places like Iceland, Norway or Scotland to get a flight in. So perhaps, a properly planned itinerary could get you covered in 2 locations at one go!
