Quick Read

"Kotahi" is the latest and last album to the 3 part series of "Photographing the South Island of New Zealand". It contains some of the most unique images captured and is the pride of all the albums released thus far. Named after a Maori language, it was the perfect way to embrace the native culture of New Zealand.

“Kotahi” is the last album in the 3 part series of “Photographing the South Island of New Zealand” and it features some of the most extraordinary images I’ve ever captured in my life.

One of the many facts about photography is, everyone has equal opportunity when it comes to the landscape and scenery itself. No matter the location, the equipment or the skill, everyone has access to all of them nowadays.

But to capture a unique, special and rare event, one has to have some luck and lots of patience to encounter one.

That’s what sets the top photographers apart. Are you willing to wake up at 3am and start hiking or trekking up some hills or mountains and patiently wait for the perfect timing? Or are you willing to camp in a nasty location such as the swamp, or bushy area where insects and mosquitoes infestation are?

Cause that’s what some of these distinguished photographers do. No, I didn’t. And no, neither am I anywhere close to their league. But I do aspire to be one. And having said that, given some patience and skills, one can still certainly capture remarkably beautiful shots.

All you had to have, is the heart for it and put your soul in it.

What does “Kotahi” mean?

The album was given a very unique name this time around. I thought it best fitting given the special emotion I had towards these images and how the word “Kotahi” synergise with the album as a whole.

In New Zealand, there’s a traditional indigenous group of people called the Maori. And what better way to represent the beauty of this country and embracing its unique culture, than to name the album after their indigenous language.

In simple terms, “Kotahi” means once. And “once”, is a very significant affinity we all had in our lives. “We only live once”, “A true love happens only once”, “a rare encounter occurs only once”, and some things really do happen only once for all of us.

Such is the connection I shared with this album – because it was only once, in that small window of opportunity that the scene before my sight unfolds itself and reveals its hidden beauty.

The special connection behind The Kotahi album

All the images presented in this album are not only by chance that the scene presented itself to me, but also a whole lot of patience that goes behind it. Some of the shots had me waking up early and standing out there in the cold chilly morning waiting for the perfect window to take the perfect shot.

And because of how incredibly beautiful these images are in it’s Black & White tone, it also revealed yet another greater quality aspect – The sharpness and details I’ve managed to captured.

While some areas may look pitch black as I create greater distinct and sharper contrast between the light and shadows, others you will observe an extraordinary amount of details in it – The cover image is one of them.

It is with such incredible precision and beauty that completely absorbed me into each image. It formed a great connection with me because I framed the scene, I clicked that shutter and I chose the image.

But the moment that may only presents itself once, chose me.

My pride, my love, my achievement

Because of all the emotions poured into it and all the special attachment I had with these images, this album had truly exceeded beyond my own expectation.

And it is with great love, respect and admiration to the beauty of nature, that I present my proudest work to the community.

While these images are taken during my New Zealand trip, looking back at them now after a few years still brought powerful emotions back to me. Recalling the memory of the exact scene, it transported me back in time to feel what it was like when I took the shot.

Download this album today to know what I’m talking about all this time, and get a feel of being transported back in time to New Zealand and experience the beauty hidden in their majestic landscapes!
